Here are some useful "current-but-not-quite-as-current" events of note. Enjoy!
- Staples had their annual Teacher's Appreciation Day on August 23rd. There weren't any cookies this year, but they passed out 512mb Flash Drives... nice!
- The McDonald's Boycott is over! However, we've still found a much healthier alternative. Have you heard about Subway's Fresh Fit for Kids meals? You get a 4" mini-sub (turkey, ham, roast beef, or tuna) on a white or wheat sub roll and topped with veggies and condiments of your choice. Apples, raisins, or a yogurt comes on the side as does milk or a juice box... all for around $3.50! That's a great, healthy, deal.
- I'm not a big fan of McDonald's but it definitely used to be a quick way to get a sort-of-balanced meal for $3.24 a person... That's changed because my family has joined the McDonald's boycott.
McDonald's has decided not just to endorse homosexuality and actively support the homosexual community, but instead they have taken things one step further. When the American Family Association spoke with McDonald's about ending their sponsorship of homosexuality, "McDonald's spokesman Bill Whitman suggested to the Washington Post that those who oppose (homosexuality) are motivated by hate, saying '...hatred has no place in our culture.'"
When my husband emailed them about their comments they sent back a form reply spouting their committment to "diversity." We are perilously close to loosing our religious freedoms in this country (see the case of Canada) so we won't be labeled "haters". The line is drawn here.
For more information, check out World Net Daily and their most recent article here.
- Subway has created a Story Starters Contest. The deadline is August 31st and it's open to all students grades K-6.
- Can you guess who's offering a summer reading program? Visit TD Banknorth's website to print out a form for your child. They read ten books and have $10 deposited into their account... Nice!
- [Grades 1-6] Complete the Barnes & Noble summer reading
program and earn a free book (from their selection).
