Basic Cleaning Supplies:
- The Cleaning Supplies
- Soft Brush (It's soft)
-
Hard Brush (It's a Hard very stiff bristles)
- Hoof pick (Looks sort of like a 'U' except it's a little bent out)
- Hair Brush (A Regular Brush girls use)
-
Hair comb (A regular comb boys generally use)
- Curry comb (An oval shaped comb that has little plastic picks that aren't sharp!)
- Face brush (A VERY soft brush for the horse's face)
The Saddle Basics and Tack Supplies:
- Saddle (That's in picture above)
- Sirrup or Stirrup Iron (When You Ride You use it for Balance and other 'Exersizes')
- Stirrup Leather (The 'Sirrup Leather' is what the Stirrup Goes on to Hold it on)
- Saddle Flap (The 'Saddle Flap' is a flap that provides a cushioning for the knee called the 'Knee Roll')
-
Knee Roll (The 'Knee Roll' provides comfort to your leg, Car ful not to squeeze with your legs some horses don't like it!)
- Sirrup Bar (The 'Stirrup' Bar' is under the 'Skirt'
- Skirt (The 'Skirt' is a flap that covers the 'Stirrup Bar' so it's nice looking because English is a VERY showy saddle unlike the Western saddle it's more of a ruff saddle)
- Panal (The 'Panal' is provides the horse a comfortable fitting so its not uncomforable)
- Cantle (The 'Cantle' is something to do with the 'Canter' the canter is one of the gaits of the horse, because when the horse 'canters' you make a 'swinging' motion that you do you swing in the saddle and that supports you when you are back in part of your 'swinging' motion
- Seat (The 'Seat is were you sit I think you know that already it's pretty ovious)
- Pommel (The 'Pommel' is part of the 'Saddle' in the 'Pommel' is a metal bar that is used to mesure the size of the horse's withers it's used so the saddle fits the horse properly)
- Twist (The 'Twist' is a part in the saddle that is right behind the 'Pommel' for the 'Pommel' which is a skinny part ang goes into the 'Twist' which is the skinnyest part of the saddle before it starts to get wider)
Order of Cleaning
- Start by brushing the horse a little firmly with the 'Hard brush'.
- Then brush with the 'Soft brush' a little more firmly.
- Then agian, with the 'Hoof pick' run your hand down the horse's leg and if needed squeeze a little to apply presure to the fetlock (basicly the ankle of a horse) when the horse lifts up her/his leg sort of wap your hand around the horse's hoof and with your other hand take the Hoof pick and gently pick out the food be CAREFUL not tho hit the frog of the horse it looks like a 'V'!
- Now gently like you were brushing your hair take the hair brush and brush the main and forlock (basicly the horse's bangs).
- Now then with the comb gently comb it out (You can also use a brush) if the horse is a kicker stand on the side and reach without mooving reach and grab the tail and them start combing or brushing.
- Now then agian use the curry comb, the curry comb is best when the horse is shedding its coat now when you use the curry comb make little circles and move it around the body (not on its bum!) then with the soft brush wipe the hair you losend off.
Saddling a Horse:
- Start by putting the saddle pad on (it's a blanket that goes under the saddle) If needed put a lambs wool blanket to support the horse's back so its not uncomfortable for the horse while you ride.
-
Now put the saddle on (Make sure it fits the horse just as I said a little ways up the page about the saddle if the saddle doesn't fit the horse the horse will be uncomfortable (contact a loccal tack shop to see what your size saddle your horse need).
- then put the girth on if your horse gets nippy when you titten the girth spread your feet apart so your horse doesn't have a chance stomping your foot trust me you don't want it to happen it HURTS (call or go over to a tack shop to get the size of your girth because you don't want the girth to big)!!
-
If your horse gets an efection were the girth goes call the vet or if he directs you to do over the phone that's probably easier or I can tell you if it's get an afection there it's probably from a dirty girth so you have to use the cleanest one you have but check with the vet first.
- Additionally put your helmet on and put the Briddle on the horse but don't shove the bit into its mouth if you do that every time the horse won't let you put the bridle in I know it's kinda gross but (you won't get bitten) stick your finger in the horses mouth from the side and it will open up its mouth and you can put the bridle bit in its mouth and put the head paese over the ears ans tie all the other stuff.
-
Finally you are ready to ride!!!!
