A friend of mine recently recommended Sherri Walters in Fitzwilliam. She runs a guest house and has been evaluating homeschoolers for around ten years. An evaluator that I've used for many years is Marijo Varney in Keene. [Marijo will be tutoring from her home this summer and during the upcoming school year. She has worked many years in the public school system as a special education teacher, she homeschooled her dyslexic son, and is an amazingly sweet person. Marijo is willing to tutor any age group in any subject. If interested, please contact her at 603-358-1078.] Christian Home Educators of New Hampshire also has a short list on their website, but you need to scroll down to see it. New Hampshire Homeschooling Coalition has a more extensive list of evaluators to choose from. Some schools have specifically designated evaluators on staff. Be clear on what they expect at the end of the year before using them as your participating agency. Some school districts provide local teachers as home education evaluators. Fall Mountain uses Carol Bennet, principal of Vilas School, as their Home Education Evaluator. For privacy reasons, HSLDA recommends the use of a private institution as a participating agency for New Hampshire homeschoolers. I've always gone through the local district but I've heard good things about Tri-City Christian Academy in Somersworth. Remember that the choice is yours… make sure you are comfortable with whomever you choose and that you leave time before July 1st to re-do your evaluation if things don’t go well. |
